Depicting a young man sitting on the back of a rushseated chair and resting a piglet on his knee as though it were a baby, with expressive plaster-composition character head, original paint, rosy cheeks, upturned nose, brown glass eyes, articulated eyelids and lower lips, piglet with articulated neck and tongue. The goingbarrel motor driving five cams and two-air cylinder movement. Height 31 ½ in. (80 cm) including hat, leather split on eyelids and lower lips, with "acorn" stop/start and Vichy crank key (missing wood grip). – The peasant turns and nods his head, blinks and moves his lower lip as though encouraging the piglet to eat the "cake" he is offering. The piglet looks up at its master, nods and sticks out its tongue. The peasant stomps his foot and heaves his shoulders in laughter. – The automaton is presented with two costumes: a second generation smock and checked trousers plus the original satin waistcoat, felt top hat, silk shirt front and striped velvet trousers. – A well-preserved example of a classic Vichy piece in good original working condition!
