Musical Automaton "Puppenbett" (or 'Lullaby') in Original Box, c

No. 4041, with German bisque head, probably by Simon & Halbig, open mouth, weighted brown glass eyes, pierced ears, original gold mohair wig, bisque hands and all-bisque mignonette baby with glass eyes, with original lace-edged costumes and bed covering, the painted metal bed containing open-spring motor and single-air cylinder musical movement. Height 9 ½ in., width 13 ½ in., depth 7 ½ in. (24 x 24.5 x 19 cm). Beautifully preserved in maker's card box with green paper edging, lid (one flap loose) and label: "1 St. No. 441, Puppenbett, Dpu 81. Made in Austria". - The mother sits up in bed, cradles her baby in her arms, moves her head as though singing a lullaby and then sinks back onto her pillow and closes her eyes, exhausted but still rocking the baby! - An unusual automaton, with charming, realistic motions. Near-mint original working condition.
