Mitchell, Los Angeles. Film camera for 35mm material in 120 or 300-meter cassettes, with electric motor, detachable Mitchell viewfinder and Carl Zeiss Jena Tessar 1:4.5/150 mm lens, Mitchell mount converted to an M42 thread for the use of more versatile lenses, electrical functions unchecked. Included is a wood Vinten tripod with pan and tilt head (tripod condition 4). Note: The cutout control system screen functions via a viewing magnifier. The entire camera body can be pushed against the lens board in stationary mode to check the detail or sharpness. The special Mitchell viewfinder not only enables a frame to be viewed, but is also detachable, so that the location and angle of view can be decided before the exposure is taken. The Mitchell NC camera appeared on the market in around 1930 and was the most widely used film camera in America until the 1960s. In the single-lens version seen here, the camera could also be mounted in a soundproof housing (blimp) for studio use. The large cassette, dubbed "Mickey Mouse Ears", became synonymous with film cameras throughout the world and remains so even in the digital age. Mitchell cameras are rarely offered in European auctions.
