Magic Lantern "Pettibone: Sciopticon", c. 1890

The Pettibone Bros. Mfg. Co., Cincinnati, Ohio/USA. One of the most attractive professional Laterna Magicas with star-shaped rotating holder (retaining screw added) for 10 colored glass pictures of 75 mm Ø, motifs in order of the original from 1890: Pettibone factory with advertisement "Military & Society Goods" with moon and stars in background, flying dragons and snakes in the mangrove jungle, the end of the world with a lamenting hermit, ice age, flood, mountains, fauna & blossoming flora, scholar with folios, alchemist with retort and as the last picture the Cheops pyramid with the Sphinx – 2 slides cracked, dimensions: 53 x 30 x 56 cm on a wooden base, with manufacturer's label on the back, 4-burner (rusty) with chimney (well reconstructed), double condenser held by a plug connection (be careful when transporting), this is an early version of the Sciopticon. – A truly spectacular collector's item and exhibit! Extremely rare!
