Geneva, with fusee movement, four pairs of cams operating for just under twenty seconds, female winding key, large bird with forest-green plumage, iridescent blue streaks and dark-red highlights, articulated bone beak, head, wings, tail and chased gold twig-form perch, in tortoiseshell case with hinged key-compartment at rear, grille with scalloped edge and fine engraving of a stylised bird in its bower, oval 8-carat gold lid with lock, enameled spray of flowers on the interior and an Italian Alpine scene on the exterior, wd. 3 5/8 x dp. 2 ½ x approx. ht. 1 1/8 (9,4 x 6,4 x 2,8 cm), minor chips on flap, edges of inner lid nicely restored, good working condition. With key. – The bird sings a complex song with four sequential pauses as it turns 360° on its axis, flutters its wings and tail and tilts its head inquisitively from side to side. Accompanying the box is the probably original silk-lined, tooled-leather travelling case and a repairer's card (dated 2. November 1958) from Jean Felber, Scarsdale and 665 Fifth Avenue, New York. With repairer's mark: 27757. – A good example of a fusee singing bird box by Frères Rochat.
