France, with painted metal buildings, articulated butcher's assistant, dog and a large papier-mâché head with open mouth and insatiable appetite, ht. 18 x wd. 51 x dp. 13 ½ in. (46 x 130 x 34 cm). – A procession of livestock leaves the stall on the right, enters the butcher's shop and passes out on the other side, as plates of sausages, chops and cold cuts, into the ever-open mouth of the customer who gulps with satisfaction after every dish that he consumes. The assistant raises a stick and kicks at the passing animals while the butcher's dog turns his head greedily at the sight of a row of roast chickens. – A most macabre and surreal advertising automaton, almost certainly a 'one off'.
