No. 19477, playing three overtures: "Fra Diavolo" (1830) by Auber, "Semiramis" (1823) by Bellini and "Guillaume Tell" (1829) by Rossini, Gamme No. 1782, with fine comb of 158 teeth (complete), "fat" cylinder, brass bedplate, instant-stop control, tune-sheet with "F.L." monogram, birdseye-elm case with ebony strin-ging, hinged endflap and key-compartment, wd. 16 ½ in. (42 cm), cylinder approx. 9 x 2 ¾ in. (23 x 7 cm), with steel key stamped "IPIG". Extreme bass tip replaced – possibly an original factory repair, movement would benefit from cleaning and dampering. The movement is in good original playing condition, with pleasing arrangements that last for around 1 minute and 50 seconds on a full revolution. H.A.V. Bulleid illustrates a similar Lecoultre tune-sheet (No. 63 in "Musical Box Tune Sheets") on an overture box of 1836. The musical box offered here dates from the same period. An unusual feature is a factory correction in the serial number from "12457" to "19477". A rare and early overture musical box.
