No. 4667, playing six airs accompanied by six bells with butterfly strikers and flower finials and three bisque dancing dolls in their original costumes, with 87 teeth in musical and six teeth in percussion combs (both com-plete), zither, tune-indicator, nickel-plated movement, crank-wound double-spring, cross-banded and veneered case with original finish, glazed door, coin-slot, drop-flap for accessing coins, tune-sheet and card plaque embossed: "Musikwerke-Manufactur, J. Irion, St. Gallen (Schweiz)", case ht. 25 x wd. 30 x dp. 14 in. (63.5 x 76 x 35.5 cm), cylinder 13 in. (33 cm), a few worn teeth on spring, generally excellent unrestored playing condition. – "Musique du Gare" musical boxes were created for the amusement of passengers in the waiting rooms of Swiss railway stations of the late 19th century. Similar coin-activated devices with bells, carousels and dancing dolls operated in the stations at Vevey, Renens, Cossonay, Payerne and Yverdon of the Jura-Simplon Railway Company. The example offered here is in unusually fine, original condition.
