Depicting an elegantly-posed young man in satin harlequin costume, with composition head, fleece wig and brown glass eyes with articulated eyelids, leaning with whip and hoop against a gymnast's bar, his right foot resting on a blue dice around which are arranged two dogs, dumbbell, cone and a crate containing the going-barrel automaton movement that plays a single air as the trainer nods his head, blinks and flicks his whip at the black dog, height 31 in. (79 cm), working order but black dog inactive, with large brass key and "acorn" stop/start. – Provenance: Ex-atelier of Michel Bertrand, successor to J.A.F. (Jouets et Automates Français) and eventual successor to Vichy-Triboulet.
