With sur-plateau movement playing a single continuous air on seventeen teeth, female winding square, male key, 14-carat gold case with engine-turned base and sides, polished interior with maker's initials "M, B & M" in a diamond shape and turquoise-set repoussé lid decorated with motifs of flowers and foliage, wd. 2 3/8 x dp. 7/8 in. Jean-François Bautte (1772-1837) and Jacques-Dauphin Moulinié (1761-1838) entered into partnership with Jean-Gabriel Moynier in around 1804. The firm specialized in fine pocket watches and objet de vertu, including a series of musical vinaigrettes with fine repoussé work similar to that of the example seen here.
