Probably Syria, engraved brass, circular baseplate with raised limbus, signs of the zodiac, crown with floriate and foliate motifs, back (dorsum) with 3 scales, interior with 7 circular scales, 5 inset discs with grid of altitude and azimuth lines, openwork disc (rete), rotating on central axis, alidade with 2 sights, needle in the shape of a dragon's head, diameter 3 1/3 in. x ht. 4 1/4 in. x dp. 1/5 in.
