Paris: Libraire Plon, 15 November 1889, 4to, 250 pages, numerous large color illustrations and a full-page lithograph plate of "Cirque d’Été", original wrappers (lightly soiled) bound in, attractive modern red cloth-backed covers and marbled endpapers, fine and bright overall condition. - Note: Regarded as the first of the modern circus classics, this successful collaboration between author and artist featured sketches by Garnier of circus performers (including W.F. Cody - "Buffalo Bill") at the Hippodrome in Paris in the Summer of 1888 as well as illustrations taken from photographic studies. The clowns, acrobats and animal-trainers illustrated on these pages may have served as inspiration for the 19th century Parisian automaton-makers.
