Production Photograph Album from the Film "Liebling der Götter"

Large-format photo album of the work on the CCC film "Darling of the Gods". The production history of the above-mentioned feature film and its protagonists is documented in approx. 400 glossy black-and-white 13 x 18 cm photographs from the film production company. The images well-preserved, the album in need of conservation. – Note: In 1937, the darling of the German cinema audience, Renate Müller, died after an attempted suicide. Her career began in the silent film era. Up until her death, she played leading roles in over 20 films. She rose to fame alongside Emil Jannings in the 1930 feature film "Darling of the Gods". She celebrated her greatest success in the film "The Private Secretary", which premiered in 1931. The song she sang, "I'm so happy today", was a catchy tune for several decades. Renate Müller suffered from mental illness, was addicted to alcohol and probably drugs. Her partner emigrated to London to escape persecution by the National Socialists due to his Jewish origins. There was a suspicion that her suicide was connected to their enforced separation. In 1960, CCC-Film Artur Brauner filmed Renate Müller's life in a significantly modified form under the old title "Darling of the Gods". The biggest female film star of the 50s and 60s, Ruth Leuwerik, was entrusted with the main role. Artur Brauner hired Max Reinhardt's son, Gottfrie Reinhardt, as director. The images in this production album feature the actors Ruth Leuwerik, Peter van Eyck, Harry Meyen, Robert Graf, Hannelore Schroth, Leonard Steckel, Willy Fritsch and many others. Gottfried Reinhardt and his cameraman, the Swedish Göran Strindberg, are pictured directing. – A unique photographic documentation of the creation of one of the most significant German post-war feature films.
