The Variety of Forms of Cartes de Visite

Collection of portrait photography: 1) 2 undecorated boxes (the specialist shops for professionals did not use decoration) with 9 x 12 cm negatives from c. 1940, containing 30 plates, mostly 2 CdV images each in 6 x 9 with professional pencil negative retouching, labeled with names. Rare! – 2–4) 3 original photographers' CdV cases: "Büttinghausen Amsterdam Godesberg" (with 4 CdV), "Fritz Hegmann Coblenz" and "Photographie Merlin Toulouse". Very rare! – 5) 2 still unused photographers' cards, each with format information: Princess Portrait (5.1 x 12 cm), Visit Portrait (6.5 x 10.5 cm) and Griseldis Portrait (8.1 x 17.1 cm) with 10 others. – 6) Approx. 70 views of towns in early CdVs. – 7) Approx. 80 early CdVs of people, plus 8 groups/couples. – 8) Later CdVs after 1880: boys and girls approx. 30 CdVs, men and women approx. 90 CdVs (including 4 colorizations), married couples and small children and groups approx. 30 CdVs. – 9) 14 cards from 3 x 4 cm, stamp camera shot, to the larger special format 17.5 x 25.5 cm with multiple montages, including 4 portraits where the people are looking at albums or photos. – And: 10) Cigar dispenser in the shape of a Japanese pavilion, by turning the tip the 4 CdVs of the geishas become 3 cigars each.
