Camera According to U.S. Pat. 1527285, 1920 onwards

The patent originates from Austrian citizen Karl W. Thalhammer of Los Angeles, USA. According to the patent, he designed a multi-use camera for the motion picture industry, primarily as a light meter for cinema recordings during on-location shooting (i.e., without additional spotlights). Just like with a professional film camera, the cameraman uses the undeveloped film as a focusing screen (thanks to the removable cap on the back) and can estimate the exposure time based on his experience, or test shots can be developed. These aspects were also the reason Oskar Barnack designed his original Leica before 1914, but Thalhammer patented it. The recording format is approx. 25 x 32 mm including the perforation; the film pressure plate described in the patent is missing. 10m reels (not included) of commercially available 35mm film are used. This experimental model, or unlicensed later replica from this period without any manufacturer's markings, features a fast approx. 2.8/85 mm lens in a Unicum shutter. A lever on top of the camera allows focusing from infinity to close-up focus. The film is advanced via a screw, and the rotation of an internal gear, which engages the perforations, serves as a film counter, counted from the outside.
