Nikon Eye-Measuring Unit with Camera Attachment, c. 1968–74

Nippon Kogaku K.K., Japan. Tabletop device, its electro-hydraulic Nikon base no. 53522 for raising and lowering is functional (at 220 V). The black lacquered ophthalmic examination device rests on a table with the serial no. 38626 (one corner of the table edge is missing its edge banding) and consists of a height-adjustable headrest with two knobs which the patient can hold in both hands. In front of this are two rotating arms, one above the other. The lower arm, serial no. 39499, is for the Nikon 7x–25x stereo zoom lens with the corresponding Nikon stereo binocular eyepieces. The upper arm, serial no. 65307, is for the beam splitter slot for collimating the image into the eye, with flash unit serial no. 54272 (untested). The zoom lens has two closely spaced ports, meaning that due to the limited space, only either the Nikon camera adapter or the microscope adapter can be mounted. Included are the Electronic Flash Device Power Unit Module MS-2 no. 55139 and an accessory box for small parts. Shipping is only available via freight carrier (camera for demonstration only). Optical components in clean condition. This beautifully designed device, with its extensive range of adjustment options, likely intended for a university eye clinic, is considerably rarer than any Nikon fundus camera.
