Erotic Collection for Establishment Guests, c. 1900

1) Silk handkerchief, 22 x 22 cm, with 4 erotic sepia-toned photographs. Very rare photographic process. – 2) Horn box, 8 cm in diameter, c. 1780, with an allegory of Diana on the lid, but concealed in the removable double lid is the classically hypocritical clerical motif of physically "assisting" a kneeling lady in prayer for "spiritual fulfillment". – 3) Horn box, 8.5 cm in diameter, c. 1820, with a glass cover over subtly erotic miniature painting. – 4) Medallion, presumably c. 1860, with mother-of-pearl on both sides, 2 x 2.5 cm, featuring an internal animation of a bawdy voyeuristic object, where, through clever mass placement, a vibrating phallus rests in front of the vagina. A very unusual object. – 5) Original condom, c. 1830, made of bladder skin with a printed erotic-clerical motif. – 6–7) Ladies' ankle boot fetishes for liqueurs – one silver: 7 cm high, and one frosted glass: 22 cm high. – 8–12) So-called brothel coins, two each with Napoleon III and Leopold II on the obverse, the reverse with a bawdy motif, some heavily worn. – 13–14) Petrol lighter and matchbox with erotic motifs. – And: 15–18) Two ladies' mirrors and two porcelain boxes, each with printed motifs. – Provenance: The van de Velde Collection 2012, pages 24–25.
