Gastro Camera GTF-A Equipment, c. 1966

Olympus, Japan. Gastro Camera GTF-A no. 241735; length (including eyepiece): 107 cm. The camera – controllable via the eyepiece – is at the tip of the gastroscope and is for up to 32 images on 6 mm wide color film, image format of 4.5 mm. Lens: 4 mm. Exposure via a built-in flash lamp; on the side a detachable connector for a rubber hose. A technical tour de force of its era. – Literature: "The History of Photography as seen through the Spira Collection," p. 126. – Included in the set are the GTF Stabilized Regulator (220/240 V), the 4-pin connecting cable, an instruction manual in Danish, and the Gastro Projector with a Zuiko 1.9/32 mm lens and an extendable screen. The film holder is for two film strips stacked vertically. Included is an original tin box labeled "Colorfilm for Olympus Gastro Camera", containing "Color Film no. 7, 4 mm, 1 Doz." (Ektachrome Tungsten 3200 K), along with 18 film spools and two spare lamps for "Visual" and "Flash". Also present are two developed Ektachrome film strips and a note from the Polytechnische Lehranstalt (Polytechnic Institute) partially illegible, but referencing "Prof. Oscar Beauvais, 1908: View of a Gastric Section" with a 13 x 8 mm black-and-white film negative. Note: This minuscule film format of 6 mm in width undoubtedly inspired the design of numerous "spy cameras" of the period; the included items represent the specific films that were commercially available in Japan at that time. Electrical functions not tested.
