Important literature for historians. 1) Mechanics’ Magazine, London. Vol. XXXI 1839, 480 pages with index. Highly sought-after! – 2) Cuthbert Bede (1855), Photographic Pleasures, 83 pages, a wealth of timeless satirical drawings by the author. Early criticism is already evident here. – 3) Franz Goerke, Die Kunst in der Photographie (Art in Photography), 2 issues from 1901 with approx. 30 art plates. – 4) Charles Holme, Art in Photography with selected examples of European and American Work, Special Summer Number of "The Studio" 1905. The prints contained within are meticulously faithful to the originals; consequently, some images exhibit the characteristic coarseness of the gum bichromate process, while others are so fine-grained and sharp that they resemble vintage prints; furthermore, the delicate hues resulting from toning processes were carefully reproduced. Completeness not verified. An important and objective volume on photography! – And: 5) Raymond Lécuyer (1945), Histoire de la Photographie, 29 x 39 cm, 452 pages; an indispensable source.
