Movikon 16 Recording Camera, c. 1938

Zeiss Ikon, Dresden. Markings: Body serial no. W65375, special-version serial numbers on the special attachment: Zeiss Ikon plate no. 113359 and riveted plate CZ 595037. A very rare Movikon 16mm camera designed for double-perforated film on 30m daylight-loading spools. Features a frame-rate indicator and a spring-motor lever (no standard power buttons). Equipped with a Zeiss Ikon Sonnar f/1.4 25mm lens (non-rangefinder model) and a Newton viewfinder. A detachable, original Zeiss Ikon attachment for electrical functions replaces the standard body cover. Marked "12 Volt." The attachment includes a closable viewing magnifier for the film gate, a counter, an interchangeable socket for a low-voltage lamp, and a low-voltage power input. A mounting bracket on the underside allows for attachment to other equipment. – Note: Such special versions were supplied to the Kriegsmarine (Navy) and Luftwaffe (Air Force) for still and motion-picture analysis, including use with submarine periscopes (see attached printout). The specific application of this particular Movikon 16 camera is unknown. Rare and highly sought-after! Electrical functions have not been tested.
