Designer 16mm Film Projector "Captain Nemo”, c. 1933

Aage Laurits Nissen, workshop foreman at the C.M. Cohr Silverware Factory in Fredericia, Denmark. A dual-claw film projector designed for 16mm film reels of up to 120 meters, complete with motor. This unique, custom-made piece features a hinged E27 lamp socket with 3-axis adjustment; all switches and components are original to the 1930s. Crafted entirely from silver-plated nickel silver and replete with technical details, it is a piece whose intricate inner workings are a delight to behold in themselves. Provenance: Carl M. Cohr??s S?lvvarefabriker A/S was one of the most significant and at times, the largest silverware factories in all of Scandinavia. Operating from 1860 to 1987, the company was renowned for commissioning top-tier designers and played a pivotal role in shaping modern Scandinavian design for decades. This commitment to excellence served as an inspiration and a personal goal for the workshop foreman employed there. In recent years, we have frequently encountered high-quality, custom-made pieces originating from Scandinavia ?C a fact which, given the region's relatively small population, points to a uniquely talented populace unafraid to tackle any creative challenge. Aage Nissen??s experimental camera design study (dubbed "Nautilus" by us, as it strongly evokes Captain Nemo??s submarine as depicted in film adaptations of Jules Verne??s novel) fetched a hammer price of ?4,800 as Lot 275 in our May 2025 auction. All mechanical parts are movable; electrical components remain untested.
