苹果原型机"Apple Macintosh"第一代"Mac"(也叫"Twiggy Mac"), 1983年

The first "Mac" (Macintosh 128k) computer was originally planned to be released with a "Twiggy" floppy disc drive similar to the one used in the "Apple Lisa-1" announced in January 1983. By the time the "Lisa-1" was ready to ship in summer 1983, however, it was clear that "Twiggy" was "buggy". This proved a lesser problem for the "Lisa", which came with a 5 MB hard disc drive, the "Mac" had no hard disc. – The "Macintosh" development team  discussed the problem and decided to work secretly on the 3.5 Sony disc drive for the original "Mac" withoutSteve Jobs' knowledge. The team switched to the 400k Sony 3.5 disc drive in the last few months before the Macintosh’s scheduled release on January 24th 1984. Not only did the completed Sony drive meet with Jobs' approval, it worked out so well that it is now hard to imagine what the "Mac" would have been like without it! – Until now only parts of the original "Twiggy Drive" Macintosh had survived: a motherboard here, a plastic case there, but never complete machines, as Steve Jobs had pointedly tried to destroy all the prototypes. The computer and keyboard offered here are authentic and original, dated 1982/83.They were acquired together and complete and have not been pieced together from miscellaneous parts. Included are several "Twiggy" diskettes with early versions of "MacPaint" and "MacAuthor" (the predecessor of "MacWrite") which boot up this rare prototype, as a result of which this machine works with a pre-release version of the "Macintosh operating system". – As a side note:When an error occurs, the dialogue box starts with "Steve sez…"and shows a pictogram of Steve Jobs. Also relevant "Mac System icons" show a sleepy bearded man. These messages and icons were of course removed for the final release. This "original Macintosh" prototype is alsoabsolutely unique as it shows the signatures of the "Macintosh Division" molded on the inside of the cover, also from Steve Jobs, "Woz" Steve Wozniak!The keyboard with pull-out card tray did not make it to production. – This is an extremely rare machine in fully working condition, this is one of only two worldwide existing examples known today.The story of the Twiggy Mac and details of this particular machine can be found at www.twiggymac.com. – Included in this lot is a letter of authenticity signed by Dan Kottke, a well known early "Apple" employee who worked on the Macintosh team with Steve Jobs!!
