Stamped "KK" (Konstantin Egorovitch Knyasev) and "88" (916 Zolotniki) on the inner lid, with cobalt-blue guilloche enamel panels richly decorated with moonstones, sapphires, garnets, rubies, emeralds, jade and malachite in silver mounts formed as laurel wreaths, pelicans, double-headed eagle crests and imperial crown with ribbons, tassels, arrow and crossed maces, carved bone and ebony keyboard with cover, faceted octagonal legs with simulated castors, hinged outer lid lifting in two sections to reveal satin-lined compartment, gem-set filigree inner lid with border of emeralds and three-faceted diamonds/diamondoids, and two-air sectional-comb cylinder movement with teeth in groups of four, signed on comb-base "Alibert, 115211" and numbered on bedplate "33, 26O4", max. width 6 ¾ in. (17 cm) x length 8 ¼ in. (21 cm), good playing condition. Attributed to Moscow silversmith Konstantin Egorovitch Knyasev, c. 1885–1889. The extensive insignia suggest that this piece was a special commission, possibly for the Life Guards Cossak Regiment. The cylinder movement, which pre-dates the piano itself by some years, is activated by lifting the keyboard cover; the change/repeat control (needs adjustment) is located above. An important and exquisite musical objet de vertu.
