Depicting a stately building with four finely carved and painted figures with original (fragile) silk costumes in the forecourt: a female musician, a man rolling dough, another chopping and a third grinding with a mortar and a churn, on two-tier inlaid rosewood-veneered base containing timed going-barrel movement driving five pinned wood wheels that cause the laborers to move their heads and hands, the musician to turn and strum and the man with the roller to lean over his work, while a fifth figure appears now and then at the right-hand window. With key-wind two-air cylinder movement housed in the lower tier, height 19 ½ in.
